Friday Finds: Hurricane by Jane Twilight Collection

by Jane Diane Matthews on March 26, 2010

Twilight. As the most mysterious time of day sweeps across the sky, many gals start to let their hair down. The hour signifies freedom from the daily grind and new opportunities for sipping champagne, fine dining and romantic liaisons.

This passion for nightfall inspired the newest collection by Hurricane by Jane. Aptly named “Twilight” the new necklaces, earrings and bracelets are composed of the finest materials. Included in the mix are sterling silver and gold-filled link chains, beads and findings complimented by jet-black stone beads (agate, spinal and onyx), iridescent moonstones, Swarovski crystals and ravishing pearls.

Each and every piece is hand crafted in limited quantities by the designer, Jane Diane Matthews. The artist measures, cuts and wire-wraps each item individually and lovingly packages each piece in an organza bag.

If you are looking for designer quality, hand-crafted jewelry at affordable prices, look no further! Hurricane by Jane Jewelry will blow you away!

Friday Finds: Pear Blossom Natural Deodorant

by Jane Diane Matthews on March 19, 2010

Smelling bad is the pits. Without proper grooming, even the most delicate of pear shaped lasses can smell a bit too ripe. Since many are concerned about the affect on one’s health due to aluminum in deodorants, switching to a natural option is the next best bet.

This sweet pear scented product (travel size retails for $2.50) is perfectly suited for our needs. Oils and butters will drench fragile skin with a layer of smooth love, while the baking soda will make ensure odor-blocking protection. The added pear fragrance oil brings this product to a level of being 98% natural.

Polly Wog Patch (an offshoot of ArtSpot’s boutique) is the seller of this pleasantly aromatic product. Why risk being a stinky Susan, when this nearly natural product will make you smell fresh and fruity.

Friday Finds: Pee Cones That Let You Pee Like a Man

by Jane Diane Matthews on March 12, 2010

Pear shaped women should always make water their number one beverage choice. The nectar is necessary for life, great for our skin, figures, overall health and our budget. There is one downfall to massive water consumption. The constant urge to pee.

Finally there is a sanitary product that can us out when nature calls. When bathroom conditions are less then stellar the Urinell ($7.37) can save the day:

My husband calls me his “camel”  because I constantly hydrate. During the course of a meal I often consume three or four glasses of H2O which often results in frequent bathroom trips. I’ve seen a lot of bathrooms in my day, and not all of them have been pretty. That is why the Urinelle is such a handy supply to carry at all times.

For years, other companies have tried to market a variety of lady funnels. Since they were all constructed out of reusable materials, owners were then put in the constant position of having to clean up their urine carryalls, bleck!  However, this particular device is created for a one time use so after we are done with our business, we just toss and wash our hands.

At this point in time, I can only imagine how many unpleasant experiences can be avoided. Right now my personal experiences are limited. Michelle Rabil  recently proclaimed her love for the item for a piece on Salon.com where she stated “My love affair with the pee cones began on a trip to Spain. The test run was in the airplane bathroom.” Since we have all been there, ‘nough said.

Another rave review comes from a customer on Amazon.com that stated “I used these on a camping trip and I absolutely LOVE them for the freedom they offer (including the ability to write your name in the snow).” The reviewer also shares a great tip “Girls: be sure to point downhill. Do NOT point against an object like a tree or wall (as you may have seen done before by inebriated fellows, this is not a good idea).”

Pear shaped ladies who  consider themselves gals on the go, should consider packing these little devices on their next trip. Although you may be mocking the item now, consider your next camping, road or international trek. This Urinelle will serve it’s purpose and do so well.

At this point I would like to thank my husband for pointing me in the direction of these little gems. As much as I am grateful for the blog idea, please do not buy me these for my birthday gift as it just may leave me a little pissed.

The natural properties of the materials allow for even heating, simple clean up and a complete lifetime of use. Aside from being dishwasher and microwave safe, the 12 oz container is just cute as a button. Friday Finds: Asian Pear Lip Balm and How to Have Kissable Lips

by Jane Diane Matthews on February 26, 2010

The East Coast is buried under several feet of snow meaning that winter continues. Blustery weather  always prompts thoughts of snuggling inside with your honey and using body heat to stay toasty warm. The first step to generating body heat is to entice your beau with kissable lips.

Exfoliating the chapped, flaky skin on your lips is a must for maintaining a perfect pucker. Here is how:

  1. Slather dry lips with petroleum jelly
  2. Moisten a washcloth and wring out extra water
  3. Gently use said washcloth to buff your lips by using small circular movements to gently remove dead skin

After your lips smooth are as smooth as a pear,  you need to add a simple layer of moisturizing protection. Since by now we all know the harmful affects of Carmex (addictive and prompts further chapping) how about going natural with this Asian Pear Lip Balm ($3.50) by Flourish Bath & Body Shop on ETSY:

The ingredients of this product can make your mouth water.  ”Cocoa and shea butters soothe and condition; castor and jojoba oils add slip and shine. Aloe extract helps moisturize, and beeswax forms a barrier to keep the moisture in, as well as providing the balm with staying power.”

When it comes to playing house, unless you and your man are playing “naughty nurse” or “vampire” your lips should be smooth and free of lipstick. By following the above beauty regime and applying said lip balm, your guy will find you irresistible and you can happily whittle away many hours waiting for the snow to melt.

Friday Finds: Pear Blossoms Photo

by Jane Diane Matthews on February 19, 2010

For east coaster trying to survive the winter season, February generally is the dreariest month of all. There are no holiday lights to admire, the skies can seem endlessly gray and there is still a chance of inclement weather, bleck. At this time, a beacon of hope is needed and this abstract photo entitled “Blossoms — Sure Sign of Spring-” (Auralee Dallas, $20) can act as the light at the end of the tunnel:

Positive thinking is the key to making it through the seasons and the cheerful, cream colored pear-blossoms can ensure the right ju-ju. Snatching up this fine-art photo and placing it next to your window will provide you with an absolute contrast to the reality of bad weather taking place outside your home.

Friday Find: Bunnies Make Friends 4×6 Print by T.M. Boyd

by Jane Diane Matthews on February 12, 2010

Devilish looking critters make me laugh. Whether I catch my cat mid yawn or if some talented illustrator has created an image of cute critters acting naughty, a smile crosses my face.  When I spotted this impish bunny with his demented pear side-kick, I knew I found a great Friday Find for all to enjoy:

“You will be his friend…..OR ELSE!!!!” is the tag-line promoting this piece created by T.M. Boyd and the artist has dozens of other images that tickle my fancy. Some other options include quirky works like “Pandas Smoking Pipes,”  a pissed off bunny named “Stabby” and a happy but sinister looking bear named “Skully.”

If you are looking for wall art that will set you apart from a crowd, this will certainly contribute to the mix. No longer will you need to rely on such standard, mass-produced fare like the “Anisetta Evangelisti, Liquore Da Dessert” poster or inspirational, photographs from Ikea. Thanks to Mr. Boyd, you can affordably adorn your home and support and independent artist.

Friday Finds: Pocket Mirror/Bottle Opener

by Jane Diane Matthews on February 5, 2010

If you have not already heard, this weekend is the Superbowl. Around the nation millions of woman are going to plant their lovely pear shaped butts on couches and party with the big boys. Just because we may be partaking in this ritual, does not mean that we are leaving our girlie sides behind. As a matter of fact, I found the perfect accessory for the event, a combo pocket mirror bottle opener ($4, Owlsay’s Shop):

This lovely pear and apple embossed item will make you the coolest chick around gathering ’round the TV. The ladies can borrow the item to properly reapply their gloss while you can crack open another brewsky without missing a second of the televised event of the year. Owlsay constructs each and every pocket mirror/bottle opener item herself as she  ”hand pressed by me on my handy dandy professional button maker machine.” Owning one will not only set you apart from the crowd but make you a superstar when it comes time to hydrate.

So whether you spend the whole day routing for your favorite team or cutest puppy with the Animal Planet 2010 Puppy Bowl (my personal choice) you can ensure that you will catch all the action. With this item you will have the most powerful of tools in the palm of your hand.

Friday Finds: Pear Napkins

by Jane Diane Matthews on January 29, 2010

“Green” is the trend these days. From going paperless with your bank statements, recycling and consuming less of everything, there are plenty of small steps individuals can take for the greater good of mother earth. One such simple switch is opting to stop buying and using paper napkins and to switch to reusable cloth ones. A great choice that pays tribute to our pear shaped bodies comes courtesy of ColorFunky’s Shop on Etsy:

Consumers who opt to invest the $27.50 now for a set of six can not only save money by not having to buy paper napkins time and time again, but will be doing the simple act of saving the environment. Less timber would be consumed and less waste would be made by just modifying this one household necessity.
